How Does Cloud Hosting Function?

What is cloud website hosting indeed? The term 'cloud' appears to be very modish in today's IT, World Wide Web and web hosting lingo. Even so, just a select few really know what cloud hosting is. Maybe it is a smart idea to inform yourself about cloud website hosting services. To make a quite long story succinct, we will first notify you about what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Website Hosting is Not Confined to a Remote Data Storage Only.

1. Supplying a remote disk storage solution, which involves one data storage appliance for all users, does not turn any particular web hosting distributor into a genuine cloud website hosting services provider.

The cPanel web hosting distributors call the ability to distribute remote disk storage services a cloud website hosting service. Up until now there is nothing wrong with the cloud terminology, but... we are discussing web hosting solutions, not remote disk storage solutions for private or business needs. There's invariably one "but", isn't there? It's not enough to call a shared web hosting solution, powered by a single-server web hosting platform, exactly like cPanel, a "cloud website hosting" solution. This is so because the other components of the whole web hosting platform must be operating in precisely the same way - this does not relate only to the remote data storage. The rest of the services involved in the whole web hosting procedure also must be remote, separated and "clouded". And that's really difficult. A very meager number of hosting distributors can really make it.

2. It Encompasses Domains, Mail Aliases, Databases, FTPs, Hosting CPs, etc.

Cloud website hosting is not limited to a remote file storage solely. We are talking about a hosting service, serving a lot of domain names, web sites, mail addresses, and so on, aren't we?

To call a hosting service a "cloud website hosting" one takes a lot more than distributing solely remote disk storage mounts (or maybe servers). The electronic mail server(s) need to be devoted just to the electronic mail associated services. Carrying out nothing else than these particular assignments. There might be just one or perchance a whole array of mail servers, depending on the total server load generated. To have a true cloud website hosting service, the remote database servers should be operating as one, irrespective of their actual number. Doing nothing different. The same goes for the customers' web hosting CPs, the File Transfer Protocol, etc.

3. There are Cloud Domain Name Servers (DNSs) too.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a genuine cloud website hosting corporation will support multiple server farm facility locations on different continents.

Here's an example of a Domain Name Server of a true cloud website hosting services provider:

dns1.hostinger.name

dns2.hostinger.name

If such a DNS is supplied by your hosting solutions provider, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud web hosting platform in use, but you can definitely be sure when you spot a Domain Name Server like the one below:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting service. This sort of DNS plainly shows that the hosting platform in use is one-server based. Possibly it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-single-server web hosting solution and holds a 98+ percent market share. In cPanel's case, one single server takes care of all hosting services (web, electronic mail, DNS, databases, File Transfer Protocol, CP(s), web site files, and so on).

Remote File Storage - The Distorted Characterization of Cloud Website Hosting.

So, a cloud website hosting service is not restricted just to a remote file storage service, as plenty of web hosting companies wish it was. Unluckily for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file hosting service providers would have been referred to as cloud web hosting ones long ago! They are not referred to as such, since they plainly offer file hosting solutions, not cloud web hosting solutions. The file web hosting platform looks indeed very plain, when compared to the web hosting platform. The remote data storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, because it's just one simple fragment of the entire cloud hosting platform. There's plenty more to be discovered in the cloud hosting platform: the CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the Domain Name Server cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the email cloud and... in the foreseeable future, maybe several brand new clouds we currently are not aware of will show up unexpectedly.
